CRAFTSMANSHIP & COMMITMENT

Hello, I'm Barnaby Bugden, a designer, maker, and interior architect. I enjoy crafting with simple, raw materials like concrete, metal, and especially wood. My hands-on approach highlights the inherent characteristics of these materials and celebrates the unique process of creation.

The majority of my work is crafted from solid timber, a by-product sourced from local tree surgeons in southeast London where I live. This sustainable practice not only adds a distinctive touch to each piece but also aligns with my commitment to both craftsmanship and environmental responsibility.

In my workshop, pieces come to life through a hands-on process. They are rough-formed using a chainsaw, some retaining the marks for a distinctive riven look. Traditional wedge tenon joints are employed, left exposed and honest, becoming distinctive features of each piece.

To add character and depth, each piece undergoes further work and sanding before experiencing the 'Shou Sugi Ban' technique. This involves burning the wood, followed by oil sealing and final polishing. This meticulous process ensures that every creation is a testament to hands-on craftsmanship and a deep connection to the materials used. Welcome to the world of Barnaby Bugden, where simplicity, craftsmanship, and a respect for natural elements define the narrative of each piece.
