FAQs

  • Will sunlight affect the wooden product?
Yes, prolonged exposure to sunlight can impact wooden products and cause fading. Tips for Protecting Wooden Products from Sunlight: 1. Rotate and Move Items: Periodically rotate or move wooden items to ensure even exposure and aging. 2. Consider Location: Place wooden products away from direct sunlight or use protective measures, especially for items exposed to outdoor elements. Remember that the specific impact of sunlight can vary based on factors such as wood type, finish, and environmental conditions. Regular maintenance and thoughtful placement can significantly extend the life and appearance of wooden products.
  • What type of wood do you use for your products?
We primarily use poplar wood for our products, as it perfectly suits the handcrafting and finishing processes we employ. Our commitment to sustainability extends to sourcing this wood locally through collaboration with tree surgeons in the area. Poplar, with its light colour and distinctive features, becomes a canvas for our unique handcrafted items. As the wood seasons, it undergoes a natural process of splitting and cracking, resulting in unique and fascinating textures. We take pride in utilizing the inherent qualities of poplar wood to bring you distinctive and visually captivating pieces that showcase the beauty of nature in every detail.
  • What is shou sugi ban?
Shou sugi ban is a traditional Japanese wood finishing technique that involves charring the surface of the wood to enhance its durability and aesthetics. In our crafting process, we apply this method to poplar wood, creating a unique and visually striking effect. The charred surface is then carefully worked to leave behind exaggerated and textured features, imparting a distinct velvet-like quality to the wood. This traditional technique adds character and depth to our products, showcasing the fusion of craftsmanship and natural beauty.
  • Are the wooden products designed for external use?
No, our wooden products are not designed or tested for external use. Exposure to rain and frost can lead to open cracking, accelerated wear, and compromised structural integrity. We strongly advise using them exclusively in indoor environments to avoid these issues.
  • Are the products load bearing?
Our products are crafted with durability in mind, but it's important to note their intended use. Unless explicitly stated otherwise they are not load-bearing and are not intended to be sat on. These pieces are meant for decorative or functional purposes, and exceeding their intended use may compromise their structural integrity.
  • Can you refinish the tops of the wooden products?
While it is technically possible to refinish our wooden products, we do not recommend it as it may affect the original coloring of the top. If you are in close proximity to us, we offer a refinishing service specifically for the tops. We apply the same treatments, but due to the nature of the process, we cannot guarantee an exact colour or textural match. If refinishing is necessary, please contact us for assistance. Important Points: Colouring Impact: Refinishing may alter the original coloring of the top, and we advise against it for this reason. Proximity Refinishing: If you are close to our location, we provide a refinishing service specifically for the tops. Same Treatments: We use the same treatments during refinishing to maintain the quality of the wood. No Guarantee of Exact Match: Due to the nature of the refinishing process, we cannot guarantee an exact colour and textural match with the original product. Contact Us: If you are considering refinishing, please contact us for more information and to discuss the specifics of your request. Remember, refinishing can have subtle variations, and our team is available to assist you in achieving the best possible outcome while preserving the unique character of your wooden product.
  • What is the best environment for the wood products?
The environment can impact the longevity of the finish. In dry or arid climates, wood may require more frequent maintenance to prevent drying out. In humid environments, there may be a lower risk of drying, but watch for potential issues like mould or mildew.
